Turning A Tuff Shed Into A Chicken Coop

If you’ve already been thinking about keeping chickens (or if you’ve recently started considering it), this might be your sign to start. While we don’t have a chicken coop model, we can confirm that the Tuff Shed community has tried and tested customizing our sheds into chicken coops with great success. 

So…what makes Tuff Sheds a good starting point for a chicken coop?

Strong, Reliable Framing

First things first, having a strong building is a good start for raising chickens. This obviously keeps predators out—which is good if you’re trying to avoid a Fantastic Mr. Fox situation—and that added security also can help your flock feel safer and lay more eggs. 

At Tuff Shed, we our Sundance Series shed feature 16” on center framing, which is basically the technical way to say, “They’re built to the same standards as the house you live in.” If it’s good enough for human architecture, the chickens are sure to approve. On top of that, water and insects are no match for our floor systems. Our steel floor joists don’t wick up moisture like wood can, and they raise the subfloor nearly 6″ above the ground. For even more protection, customers can choose to add our treated floor decking upgrade.
